The week-long Hand Painting on Textile Fabric workshop organised at the Fine Arts Department of Shri Ram College concluded with a bang. The aim of the workshop was to highlight new possibilities in the field of textile decoration through traditional art styles and modern designs. The week-long workshop was organised under the guidance of Rekha Pundir, retired Principal, SD Polytechnic, who is adept in hand printing. The workshop was attended by all the students of fashion design, in which the instructors not only gave technical information on design and colours, but also explained the correct use and maintenance of the material required for painting on clothes. The participants worked on styles like block printing, freehand design, Madhubani, Warli, and floral motifs. Apart from this, they also learnt colour combinations, brush techniques and the nuances of working with fabric paints. Head of Fine Arts Meenakshi Kakaran spoke about the design styles. The workshop focused on traditional Madhubani, Warli, modern geometric patterns, abstract art, and contemporary motifs and floral designs. The participants said that this workshop not only gave them a chance to learn a new art but also gave them a platform to present their ideas and creativity.
On this occasion, Director of Fine Arts Department Dr. Manoj Dhiman assured to organize such workshops in future as well. Such initiatives not only encourage art and craft but are also effective in giving a new identity to local artists. On the last day, an exhibition of the works prepared by the participants was organized and the students also reviewed their works.
The lecturers and members of Fine Arts Department Rajnikanth, Binnu Pundir, Dr. Anu, Reena Tyagi, Mayank Saini, Ajit Kumar Manna, Soni Srivastava, Siddharth, Shahzadi and Karunakar Sharma etc. contributed in making this workshop a success.
