Workshop on implementation of National Education Policy-2020 at Masters level and Abacus-UP Portal
A workshop was organized jointly by Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur and Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar in connection with the implementation of National Education Policy-2020 at the postgraduate level and Abacus-UP Portal in the auditorium of Shri Ram College, in which Principals/representatives of more than 200 colleges of the respective districts of Saharanpur, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar participated.
The workshop was presided over by Prof. HS Singh, Vice Chancellor of Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur. In the workshop, Dr. Dinesh Chand Sharma, Member, UP State Steering Committee NEP-2020 was Keynote Speaker, Registrar Maa Shakumbhari University Saharanpur V.K. Maurya was the chief guest, member NEP, Dr. Naresh Malik, Principal, Ch. Chhotu Ram Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Sudhir Pundir, Principal, Sanatan Dharma Mahavidyalaya were present as special guests. The workshop was started by lighting the lamp.
First of all, Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Founder Chairman of Shri Ram Group of Colleges, while welcoming all the guests to Shri Ram College Auditorium said that in the new National Education Policy, efforts have been made to remove all the old shortcomings of today's education system. Under the new policy, the focus has also been on making it excellent and universal. The new National Education Policy has brought about a change. The avenues for completing the degree in a new way are open for the students. Under this new education policy, along with the knowledge of the students, attention has also been paid to their health and skill development. Under the new education policy, now students will have the right to choose their own subject. Students will not have to choose between Arts, Science and Commerce as before. If they want, they can choose subjects from all these three streams.
Keynote speaker Dr. Dinesh Chand Sharma expressed his gratitude to all and while giving information about the new education policy, he said that today we are present in this workshop after having more than 200 online meetings. Giving information about the syllabus, he said that the earlier syllabus was of very low standard, so new syllabus will be created and the university may revise this syllabus later. He said that in the new education policy, emphasis would be laid on skill development of the students in the first two years of three year degree and it would be mandatory to have research in the final year syllabus. In the new education policy, two subjects will be related to the curriculum, while the third subject can be associated with any other curriculum. Along with this, he said that it would be necessary to teach about ancient India in the first unit of the course.
Along with this, in the second session of the workshop, while giving information about the Abacus-UP app to everyone, he said that the most important platform has been prepared for implementing the new education policy in Uttar Pradesh from the session 2021-22. Students of all types of universities and colleges of the state will get all kinds of facilities through the state-level portal prepared in the name of Abacus-UP.
Their degrees and mark sheets will also be available through this portal. Also, the option of changing the institute and taking re-admission after leaving the studies will also be available. Information about the infrastructure facilities, laboratories, equipment and teachers available in higher education institutions will be made available on this platform. A database of students seeking admission from the next academic session will also be prepared.
Prof. HS Singh, Vice Chancellor of Maa Shakumbhari University, said that Vedic education was under Gurukul, limited to Madrasa during Mughal period, education did not develop during British period. Education is far ahead in today's era. In the new education policy, now students will be able to study in their own language and will also be able to give exams in that language. The option of studying other ancient languages of India like Sanskrit has also been given. The requirement of English has been abolished. From now onwards, special attention will be given to imparting technical knowledge to the students in the academic session. In the National Education Policy 2020, education will be provided to reduce the burden of students and increase their interest in studies, so that instead of rote learning, the focus will be on increasing their understanding. It is important to have a healthy mind as well as a healthy body, so along with studies in the curriculum, "extracurricular activities" like sports, arts, etc. have also been made mandatory.
Maa Shakumbhari University registrar VK Maurya said that in future all the work will be online, so it is important for everyone to be updated. He asked the principals of all the colleges to cooperate in setting up the necessary facilities, as well as thanked the management of Shri Ram College for providing the platform.
