One-day Millets Awareness Program

Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, successfully organized a one-day Millets Awareness Program. The program aimed to educate students and the general public about the importance of millets and connect them with the concept of "Superfood for a Healthy Future."

The program was inaugurated by lighting a lamp jointly by Chief Guest Dr. Veerpal Nirwal, Chairman, District Panchayat, Muzaffarnagar; Special Guest Pramod Sirohi, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh; and Sachin Kumar, Subject Matter Expert; Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, Shri Ram College; and Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean, Academics, Shri Ram College. In their addresses, the guests described millets as a food deeply rooted in Indian tradition and emphasized its importance in fostering a healthy lifestyle.

The program began with a welcome address, followed by various sessions that shared information about millets. Speakers explained that millets are small-grained grains that are rich in nutrients. They are rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are not only beneficial for health but also environmentally sustainable, as they are considered drought-resistant crops. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named them "Shri Ann," meaning "Nutrition Grains." This designation reflects the special cultural and nutritional significance of millets in Indian tradition.

‎ On this occasion, students also organized an exhibition of various dishes and products made from millets. Students from the Departments of Agriculture, Bioscience, and Home Science presented flour, snacks, and other healthy foods, highlighting the potential for innovation and entrepreneurship. These preparations were evaluated by a judging committee, and the winners were honored.
‎ At the event, students presented a variety of dishes made from millets. Students who performed well in various categories were awarded. The major winners are as follows: Dessert Category: 1st place Bhargav Arya (Gulshan Kumar, Radwa), Sunena (Barfi) 2nd place Ayushi Tyagi, Monika Tyagi (Badu Ritu, Millet Kheer) 3rd place Naseema (Ragi Laddoo) Snacks Category: 1st place Mukambika 2nd place Aditi Mishra, Riyanshi Sain (Ragi Idli) 3rd place Aastha, Himani (Finger Millet Cutlet) Chatpati Chaat Category: 1st place Ayushi, Kanchan Tyagi 2nd place Tasmiya, Riya Beverages Category: 1st place Prachi (Ragi Smoothie) 2nd place Aanchal Kumari, Afrin (Millet Yogurt) 3rd place Kajal Kumari Khichdi Category: 1st place Aniket Kumar 2nd place Preeti 3rd place Priyanshu Baked Items Category: 1st place Aliza Khan, Ayashi Dhiman (Millet Baked Dish) 2nd place Amirullah (Millet Chocolate Cake) 3rd place Tanya Sukralia (Ragi Cookies) Student presentations at the event were evaluated by a committee of experts, and the winning participants were honored.

Various committees were formed to organize the event, including the Guest Greeting Committee, Organizing Committee, Registration Committee, Judging Committee, and Evaluation and Result Declaration Committee. College faculty and students played an active role in these committees.

It was also emphasized on this occasion that increasing the consumption of millets is not only beneficial for personal health but also an effective step towards ensuring agricultural sustainability and national food security. Promoting millet production and consumption will help combat malnutrition and encourage entrepreneurship at the rural level.

This event, organized by Shri Ram College, proved extremely beneficial for the students and the audience. The college management resolved to continue organizing events of such social and educational importance in the future. Kapil Dhiman, Dean, External Admissions, successfully conducted the event.
