A one day international workshop on the topic of "Indo-Dutch Workshop on Production Technique of Lily Cultivation" was organized by the Department of Agriculture in the auditorium of Shri Ram College. On the occasion of inauguration of this international workshop, the chief guest was Just de Jong, Country Head, VWS Flowerbulbs, Holland and special guests included Dr. SC Kulshreshtha, Chairman, Shri Ram Group of Colleges, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, Shri Ram College, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Head of Department of Agricultural Science, Dr. Mohd. Naeem, Head of Department of Bioscience, Dr. Vipin Saini, etc.
The inaugural session of the international workshop started with lighting of lamps. In which the chief guest was Just de Jong Country Head, VWS Flowerbulbs, Holland and the special guests were Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Chairman, Shri Ram Group of Colleges, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, Shri Ram College, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal, Shri Ram College, Dr. M. Naeem, Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences etc.
At the beginning of the program, spokesperson Dr. Umara Rahmani, Assistant Teacher, Department of Agricultural Sciences, through a power point presentation in front of the chief guest, special guest, other guests and audience present in the auditorium, made the founder chairman of Shri Ram Group of Colleges, Dr. SC Kulshrestha aware of the achievements at the national and international level and also gave detailed information about the important contribution and achievements of the institute in the field of higher education and sports. Through this presentation, he told that the institute regularly helps students in getting employment through campus placements and also encourages students in the field of entrepreneurship and provides them financial help.
On this occasion, the chief guest and keynote speaker of the program, Just de Jong, Country Head, VWS Flowerbulbs, Holland, said that Holland, also known as Netherlands, ranks first in flower production in the world and its population is 17.6 million which is 79th of India. The land inside Holland is below sea level in which 50 percent of the total energy is spent in draining out the water. The chief guest told that VWS Flowerbulbs, a flower production company mainly produces seeds of flowers of Lily, Gladiolus, Tulip and this seed is prepared in the form of tuber and the seeds are supplied to the country and abroad. In which the supply of lily is done more within India because the price of lily flower is about 30 rupees per flower and lily worth about 25-30 lakh rupees is produced in 1 acre. To prepare it, it can be easily produced from November to March according to the temperature of Western Uttar Pradesh. For its production, a poly house is required in which the temperature can be controlled and the seeds of gladiolus are easily prepared in India, so there is no need to order it from Holland. A lot of precautions and maintenance is required to cultivate lily. Due to which lily is not grown in India due to its low demand in the Indian market. Lily flowers will be seen only in Mughal Garden, New Delhi and Lily Garden located in Srinagar, along with this, Just de Jong along with the Chairman of Shri Ram College got an MoU done with Shri Ram College and VWS Flowerbulbs, Holland. Under this MoU, students passing out from Shri Ram College will be able to go to VWS Company for placement. Which is a good source for the future of the students. Along with this, Dr. Just de Jong explained the intricacies of production of lily and the technique of increasing quality to the students in a good way. On this occasion, Dr. SC Kulshreshtha, Founder Chairman of Shri Ram Group of Colleges, encouraged to promote flower cultivation in agriculture, and also told that if a farmer cultivates wheat, he gets less profit. Whereas if a farmer cultivates flowers, he gets more profit. Chairman Sir also told that if expensive crops are sown in the field, then the profit will also be more and in flower cultivation, mostly those flowers should be grown which no one else can grow. At the same time, Chairman Sir addressed everyone and said that flowers are a symbol of love and happiness. He told that various types of expensive plants ranging from indoor plants are grown in Shri Ram College. Chairman Sir, while telling about gerbera flower, said that gerbera flower is sold at the price of Rs. 1 to Rs. 14. He said that if we talk about flower production under agriculture, then Holland has established its supremacy in it.
Giving information about the program, Director of Shri Ram College, Dr. Ashok Kumar, while giving a brief description of flower production in a one-day workshop, said that Germany is the largest exporting country in the world and he told that in India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra are the main flower producing states. 15-20 degree Celsius temperature is required for flower production and giving information about three main types of flowers, he said that Lily, Tulips, Gladiolus.
