A one day international seminar on “Advanced Technology of Bulb Grown Flowers” was organized by the Department of Agriculture in the auditorium of Shri Ram College. On the inaugural occasion of the seminar, Joost de Jong Country Head, VWS Followerbulbus, Holland was the chief guest and the special guests included Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Chairman of Shriram Group of Colleges, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director of Shriram College, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal of Shriram College. Dean Academics Dr. Vinit Kumar Sharma, Dean, Computer Application Dr. Nishant Kumar Rathi, Dean Management, Dr. Saurabh Mittal, Head of Department of Agricultural Sciences Dr. Mau Naeem etc. were present.

The inaugural session of the seminar started with the lighting of the lamp. In which Joost de Jong Country Head, VWS Followerbulbus, Holland was the chief guest and the special guests were Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Chairman of Shriram Group of Colleges, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director of Shriram College, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal of Shriram College, Dean Academics Dr. Vineet. Kumar Sharma, Dean, Computer Application, Dr. Nishant Kumar Rathi, Dean Management, Dr. Saurabh Mittal, Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Mau Naeem etc.

At the beginning of the program, spokesperson Dr. Archana Negi, Assistant Teacher, Department of Agricultural Sciences, present in the auditorium, presented national and international awards to Shriram Group of Colleges, Founder Chairman Dr. SC Kulshrestha through power point presentation in front of the chief guest, special guest, other guests and audience. Informed about the achievements made at the level and also gave detailed information about the important contributions and achievements of the institute in the field of higher education and sports. He told through this presentation that the institute regularly helps the students in getting employment through campus placement and is also providing financial assistance to the students by encouraging them in the field of entrepreneurship.On this occasion, the chief guest and keynote speaker of the program, Joost de Jong, Country Head, VWS Flowers Bulbs, Holland, said that Holland, also known as the Netherlands, has the first place in flower production in the world, and here The population of India is 17.6 million which is 79th of India. In Holland, the land is below sea level and 50 percent of the total energy goes into draining water. It was told by the Chief Guest that VWS Flowerbulbs, a flower production company, mainly produces seeds of Lilium, Gladiolus, Tulip flowers and this seed is prepared in the form of tubers and the seeds are supplied to the country and abroad. In which Lilium is supplied more in India because the price of Lilium flower is around Rs 30 per flower and Lilium worth around Rs 25-30 lakh can be produced in 1 acre. To prepare it, it can be easily produced from November to March according to the temperature of Western Uttar Pradesh. For its production, a poly house is required in which the temperature can be controlled and gladiolus seeds are easily produced in India, so there is no need to import it from Holland. Cultivation of tulips requires a lot of precautions and maintenance. Due to which tulip is not grown in India due to its low demand in the Indian market. Tulip flowers can be seen only in the Tulip Gardens located in Mughal Garden, New Delhi and Srinagar. Along with this, Joost de Jong along with the Chairman of Shri Ram College signed an MoU with Shri Ram College and VWS Flowerbulbs, Holland. Under this MoU, students passing out from Shriram College will be able to go to work in VWS company for placement. Which is a good source for the future of the students.

On this occasion, Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Founder Chairman of Shriram Group of Colleges, encouraged the promotion of flower farming in agriculture and also told that if a farmer cultivates wheat, he gets less profit. Whereas if a farmer cultivates flowers then he gets more profit. Chairman Sir also told that if expensive crops are sown in the fields then the profits will also be higher and in flower farming, mostly those flowers should be grown which no one else can grow. While addressing everyone, Chairman Sir said that flowers are a symbol of love and happiness. He told that various types of expensive plants, including indoor plants, are grown in Shriram College. While talking about Gerbera flower, Chairman Sir said that Gerbera flower is sold at a price ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 14. He said that if we talk about flower production under agriculture, then Holland has established dominance in it.

Giving information about the program, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director of Shri Ram College, while giving a brief description of flower production in the one-day international seminar, said that Germany is the largest exporting country in the world and he told that in India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu , Maharashtra is mainly a flower producing state. Temperature of 15-20 degrees Celsius is required for flower production and while giving information about three main types of flowers, he said that good profits can be earned by cultivating tulips, gladiolus, lilium.

On this occasion, students of the Department of Agricultural Sciences asked the chief guest Joost de Jong many questions on flower production. The Chief Guest satisfied the students by answering all the questions. Chairman Sir and the Director expressed their gratitude by presenting a memento to the Chief Guest. Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal of Shri Ram College, thanked the guests.
