A two day National Seminar on “Role of Law and Governance in Protection of Environment” was organized by Shri Ram College of Law at Shri Ram College Auditorium. On the inauguration of the first day of the national seminar, Richen Lahmo, member of the National Commission for Minorities, New Delhi, was present as the chief guest, and Mahatri Rastogi, the district minority welfare officer, and Dr. Amrit Raj, the founder of Arogyadham, were present among the special guests.

The program of the first day of the seminar was organized in two phases. In which the first phase was the inaugural session and the second phase was the technical session. The inaugural session of the first day began with the lighting of the lamp. At the beginning of the program, Shriram Group of Colleges, Founder Chairman Dr. SC Kulshrestha was informed about the achievements at the national and international level through a power point presentation in front of the chief guest, special guest, other guests and audience present in the auditorium by college spokesperson Shruti Mittal. Along with this, the institute gave detailed information about the important contribution and achievements of the institute in the field of higher education and sports. He told through this presentation that the institute regularly helps the students in the field of getting employment through campus placements, as well as providing financial assistance to the students by encouraging them in the field of entrepreneurship.

On this occasion, the chief guest of the program, member of the National Commission for Minorities, New Delhi, Richen Lahmo said that there is a great need for environmental protection in the 21st century, but first of all we should follow it ourselves. He said that it is necessary to plant saplings for environment protection and not just make laws and try to implement them. Emphasizing on banning the use of plastic bags, he said that we should try our best to save our environment, there is a need to make the laws related to environmental protection more powerful, so that the efforts towards environmental protection can be practically implemented. Can be increased He said that there is an important need to make the coming generation aware about the problems related to the environment and their causes, only then the increasing pollution can be stopped and protection can be provided to the environment. He said that in order to save the environment, it is very important that we plant trees and take care of them. Giving the example of Ladakh, he said that our forefathers were very much against polluting the rivers, streams, ponds and other water sources, but the forefathers believed that the water given by nature is more than a boon for man. Therefore contaminating it is a sin, so he said that polluting water is against the laws of nature. He said that the protection of the environment should be done on the basis of the rules made by the forefathers which are linked to our culture.

On this occasion, the special guest of the program, Dr. Amritraj, founder of Arogya Dham, said that there is no need of law to do any work, rather man should protect the environment on the basis of his determination and his positive thinking. He said that people are becoming aware in the society and are also planting trees, but it is also necessary to irrigate them from time to time, in the absence of which the plant gets destroyed. He has given the paramount example of protecting the environment by planting trees. Giving the example of environment in the form of a poem, he told that "If there is a river, there will be friendship with the sea, if there is an open window, there will be love".

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. SC Kulshrestha, Founder Chairman of Shriram Group of Colleges, said that nature is the reason for the destruction of nature. He said that it is difficult to protect the environment until there is a provision of punishment by making a law. Explaining Namami Ganga and Swasth Bharat, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken commendable steps for environmental protection, but without public cooperation, it is not possible to give a positive shape to the programs related to environmental protection by the government. Giving information about the contribution of Shriram Group of Colleges in the field of environmental protection, he said that Shriram Group of Colleges is one of such institutions in Uttar Pradesh where all the policies and rules related to environment are being followed very seriously. He said that with the help of Japan, a 180 kW solar power plant has been installed in the institute. He told that Shri Ram Group of Colleges is the only institution where there is arrangement of green toilet.

The second phase of the seminar was organized in the form of a technical session in which Chairperson Dr. B.K. Tyagi, Dr. Shailendra Sharma, Head of Department Law, Dr. BK Garg Retired Lecturer, Dr. Om Dutt, Lecturer DAV College, Muzaffarnagar, Dr. Ravindra Pratap Singh, Principal, Chow Harchandra Law College Khurja and Dr. Poonam Sharma, Principal Shriram College of Law were present. In the second phase, Shri Ram College of Law students OC Singh, Surbhi, Lareb Jamir, Tushar Malik, Sana Qureshi, Mahi, Shashank Agarwal, Sanya, Prajwal Dhanghar, Bushra Khan, Aayushi, Kulmilan, Hurain, Iqra, Sajid, Tabassum, Ayaan Tyagi, Messiah Khan, Aman Naeem, Sidra, Mukul Anand, Vanshvardhan, Urvashi Tomar, Shirin and Sheetal expressed their views on environmental protection and conservation through power point .

Giving information about the programme, the Principal of Shri Ram College of Law said that 74 research papers have been received from universities of different states for presentation in the two-day national seminar and 288 research scholars have registered to participate in the seminar.
